When a vessel is undergoing repairs, the potential liabilities of the Ship Repairer are very extensive.  Ship Repairers, therefore, usually effect an insurance against their legal liability ‘from any cause whatsoever’ for loss, damage or expense to vessel being repaired by them. This generally includes not only the cost of redoing defective or unskillful repairs, or cost of correcting errors due to faulty design but, also liabilities to third parties arising out of repairs carried out. LMA advises the shipyard on all aspects of claim under a Ship Repairer’s Liability Insurance including the presentation of claim to their Underwriters.
